    Do you see a squirrel?

    People using newer versions of Mac OS X may be encountering a bug with Open Frameworks apps, due to the way that GateKeeper (apple security) deals with these programs. If you don’t see a squirrel when you run this program, that is most likely the cause. The easiest way to fix it is to drag the app into a different location (e.g., your desktop) then back to the original location. Then double-click to open it. You should now see a squirrel, and it should move around as you drag sliders in Wekinator.

    It looks like this is a known issue with Sierra and Java. I recommend trying the fixes from https://github.com/processing/processing/issues/5272

    Hi Abhiji,

    You can download the MFCC extractor in a few formats here: http://www.wekinator.org/examples/#Audio

    Hi there,

    Sorry for the delayed reply. There is an issue with openFrameworks-generated apps on High Sierra, specifically having to do with OS X Gatekeeper. This may be causing the problem you’re seeing.

    One easy fix is to move the app to another directory (e.g., to the desktop) and then back. Then try double-clicking on it again. If it’s the Gatekeeper issue causing your problem, this should fix it.

    Hi there,

    Unfortunately, I’m unable to replicate this behaviour. When I use the Python OSC library (used in the Python example code at http://www.wekinator.org/examples/#Python) to set the class, I get the expected behaviour. Specifically, I’m using the code below:

    send_address = '127.0.0.1', 6448

    # OSC basic client
    c = OSC.OSCClient()
    c.connect( send_address ) # set the address for all following messages

    while 1: # endless loop
            rNum = OSC.OSCMessage()
            rNum.setAddress("/wekinator/control/outputs")
            n = seed.randint(1, 99) # get a random num every loop
            rNum.append(n + 0.0) #0.0 here is hack to make it float
            c.send(rNum)
            print n
            time.sleep(1) # wait here 1 second

    Perhaps try a different OSC library?

    (And by the way, Wekinator is on github at github.com/fiebrink1/wekinator)

    Hi Jim,

    I’m very sorry for overlooking this for so long. I was just contacted by email by another user who found the same thing using McAffee, and I found your post.

    The good news (I think) is that McAffee may be wrong here.

    I created the file FMSynth_5ContinousOutputs using a free (and legitimate, non-virus/malware) software called Platypus. It wraps up Mac executables so you can double-click on them and give them an icon.

    The creators of OSX/Backdoor.Eleanor also used Platypus to make their app (see https://www.macrumors.com/2016/07/06/backdoor-mac-eleanor-faq/), and it looks like other people who’ve made software using Platypus have also been flagged by McAfee as matching this software (e.g., https://www.jamf.com/jamf-nation/discussions/20521/app-packager-is-being-flagged-as-eleanor-malware, http://stumpy.vuse.vanderbilt.edu/Malware.htm).

    I will look into this further and try to find an alternative to Platypus that won’t cause this issue, but I don’t think there’s anything to actually worry about.

    Hi Tate,

    This is a bug that has been fixed in the most recent Wekinator version.

    (FYI it’s probably more efficient to post to the Kadenze forums if you are already in the course.)

    That’s fantastic! Thanks for sharing. Are you OK with me adding this to the github repository at github.com/fiebrink1/wekinator_examples and/or to the Examples page (with credit to you) ?
